Overview

outbid.lol launched late on Aug 19 as a 3-hour side project by indie hacker Jonathan Wilke (@jonathan_wilke). The mechanic is deliberately simple: your bid is your rank. New spots start at $5; paying less than the #1 price still places you wherever that bid can take. Existing listings can top up by paying the difference.

Growth was extreme — roughly 1M+ visitors in about 40–48 hours, reported revenue in the $50k–$70k+ range, and top bids climbing past $12k as tools like orynth.dev, crowdreply.io, outrank.so, and trycomp.ai fought for #1. The launch broke analytics providers, drew a turned-down $100k acquisition offer, spawned 10+ copycats on day one, an unofficial Pump.fun token, AMAs, Reddit clones, Indie Hackers posts, and news write-ups.

The marketplace is extremely top-heavy: a few large bids dominate visibility and clicks, while the lower board fills with $5–$20 placeholders. It works best as a pure attention channel for SaaS, tools, and X handles — especially AI/dev and B2B — not as a long-term SEO or content platform.
